Green Belt Training Guide

Green Belt: Go-kyu


Observation
Stances: horse (level 2), forward
Blocks: double brace; 8-point w/ strikes (see blocking systems)
Strikes: turning backfist, spearhand
Kicks: round, front thrust
Techniques: power execution, speed

Defense Training: 1 stance for each animal; 1 cross wrist grab, 1 rear headlock; Kempo combination #8 (see combinations section)


Sparring: 1 step set A alternate
  • Outside hammer/ outside knifehand block 
  • Inside hammer/ inside knifehand block 
  • Downward hammer/ upper knifehand block 
  • Low inside hammer/ lower knifehand block 
Terms: 
  • Kumite- sparring/sport fighting 

    Form: Kata Shi-kyu, segment 1 (see forms section)

    1st Degree
    Stances: inverted
    Blocks: double knifehand
    Strikes: turning knifehand, cross punch, immortal man
    Kicks: crossover side, turning back
    Techniques: 8-point direction, rear foot pivot

    Defense Training: 1 snake technique; 1 back choke, 1 lapel grab; Kempo combination #9 (see combinations section)


    Sparring: 1 step set B alternate
    • Round kick/ middle palm block 
    • Drop kick/ downward palm block 
    Form: Kata Shi-kyu, segment 2 (see forms section)


    2nd Degree
    Blocks: 4-point (see blocking systems)
    Kicks: inside crescent, outside crescent

    Defense Training: 1 tiger technique; 1 rear bear hug; Kempo combination #4 (see combinations section)


    Sparring: Point, soft contact 

    Form: Kata Shi-kyu, segment 3 (see forms section)


    3rd Degree
    Defense Training: 1 rear single wrist grab
    Sparring: Free, soft contact 

    Form: Kata Shi-kyu, segment 4 (see forms section)

    What's on the test:
    • Must have shown an increase in flexibility 
    • Basics- forward stance, inverted stance, double brace block, double knifehand block, turning backfist, turning knifehand, spearhand, immortal man, round kick, front thrust kick, inside & outside crescent kick, turning back kick, crossover side kick 
    • Techniques- speed, power, 8-point direction, rear foot pivot 
    • Blocking systems- 8-point w/ strikes, 8-point knifehand, 8-point palm, 4-point 
    • Terms- kumite 
    • Defense- 1 stance for each animal, 1 snake technique, 1 tiger technique; 1 cross wrist grab, 1 rear headlock, 1 back choke, 1 lapel grab, 1 rear bear hug; combinations 2-9 
    • Sparring- 1-step set A & B alternate, 3 minutes of soft-contact free sparring 
    • Form- Kata Shi-kyu
    Minimum time in rank: 4 months
